Keelboat Racing
BLAIRGOWRIE YACHT SQUADRON
WELCOME TO THE 2026-27 SEASON
This season promises a lively and rewarding program for sailors and volunteers across the Club. There will be plenty to celebrate on the regatta stage, but our real strength will again come from the members who race, volunteer and make things happen.
Volunteer training remains a key priority. Great racing relies on confident race management teams, rescue boat crews, mark layers and many others working together. We will keep building those skills so more members can get involved, share the load and enjoy being part of the action. We will also continue recognising and thanking our volunteers, including through the membership subscription rebate program for those especially generous with their time.
A fresh focus this year is sailor development. Through coaching and instructing, we want sailors at every level to build confidence, sharpen skills and enjoy their racing even more. Whether you are new to the start line, returning to the sport, or aiming higher, the Club will be a place where progress is encouraged and supported.
The calendar has real energy. Our J/70, Finn, Keelboat, Women, Youth and RS Aero sailors will be part of important regatta activity that will showcase the commitment of sailors and volunteers. The standout will be the RS Aero World Championships in January 2027, a terrific opportunity to put BYS on the world stage and a great reason to get involved.
Just as importantly, club racing remains the heartbeat of the season. Week by week, crews come together, rivalries grow, skills are tested and friendships are made. From twilight and weekend racing to the very special Diamond Jubilee Easter Series celebrating 75 years of sailing at Blairgowrie, there is something for sailors chasing competition, improvement or the simple joy of being on the water.
I sincerely thank the Sailing Office staff for the professionalism and detail they bring to our enormous program. I also thank the Sailing Committee members for their time, judgement and commitment. Their work behind the scenes helps make our racing safe, welcoming, competitive and fun.
I encourage every member to jump in this season: race hard, volunteer often, coach generously, support your fleet and welcome new sailors. If we bring that spirit to the months ahead, we will create a season full of energy, achievement and Club pride.
And don’t forget the highlight of the BYS social calendar: the Club Captain’s Party on 23 January 2027. Stay tuned for the theme.
Jenni Maclean, Club Captain
BYS SAILING HUB INSTRUCTIONS
Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron uses the BYS Sailing Hub, powered by Sailing Results, as our boat register, for race and series entry, signing on and signing off, results and for our race day volunteer roster. Instructions for setting up a BYS Sailing Hub account and its use can be found on the BYS website under Sailing.
All sailing and volunteering members will need a BYS Sailing Hub account. You account will hold your emergency contact details and medical conditions to assist with the safe delivery of racing. Please keep your details up to date, these are stored separately from your club membership details.
To use the BYS Sailing Hub for the first time, you will need to create an account. After that you’ll be able to log in to add a boat to the boat register, add and remove crew and sign on and off for racing if you are a boat owner or skipper. All crew participating in racing must be signed on, non-members visiting will have a SailPass generated as part of signing them on.
Our race day Volunteer duty roster also runs on the BYS Sailing Hub. Log in to view your upcoming rostered duties including the day, time and task you’ve been rostered for or to contact another member to arrange a duty swap.
