Come join the crew...

When you choose to join Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, you’re doing more than just signing on for a sail. Because no matter how you choose to use your membership – Off The Beach, Keelboat sailing, recreational and power boating and learn to sail programs for all ages – you’re joining a community of people who love being in and around the water little words – Family, Friendship, Sailing – to create a member experience like no other.

It’s a passion that drives us, but we also understand that ‘getting onto the water’ is just one part of what makes BYS the place you want to bring your friends and family.

What makes BYS a great Club to join?

BYS MEMBERSHIP

We have a membership category that’s sure to suit you, and your family.

To find out more, why not chat to a real person?  Our Membership Services Coordinator, Michelle de Blaquiere, is a Sabre sailor (her kids sail too) so she’d love to hear from you, just call on 5925 9602 or click here.

If you prefer, you can download the application form below and return it here.

BYS MEMBERSHIP FAQ

How do I apply ?

That’s easy. We can take all the drama out of working out what’s right for you.

A quick call to our Membership Services Manager, Michelle de Blaquiere and you’ll have all your questions answered.  She’d love to hear from you, just call on 5925 9602 or click here to email.

The membership process will take approximately one month from submitting your application.

  • Each application is reviewed by the Membership Committee and applicant’s names are advertised in our weekly email newsletter.
  • Applicants are invited to attend a New Members Information and Welcome Session to learn about the club’s programs, facilities and the benefits of membership. Here applicants will also meet representatives of the Membership Committee, who can also propose and second membership applications if needed.
  • Applications are ratified by the Executive Committee.
  • An offer of membership will be made, along with an invoice for membership joining and subscription fees, to be paid within 30 days.
  • On acceptance of membership by paying the membership invoice, personalised membership cards will be available to new members from the office.

How do I become a member at BYS?

If you already know what type of membership you want, you’re more than half way there. Now just complete the membership application form at the link above and return it by clicking here.

Once we receive your completed application form, you will be invited to attend a New Member Information and Welcome session, held monthly on a Saturday morning at the club. At this session our membership committee will take you through all the benefits of the club with you, explain how things work and answer any questions you may have. We’ll take you on a club tour where you can meet other members and finish off with a light finger food lunch. Your name will be advertised in our club newsletter, the committee meets to formally accept your membership and you’ll then be welcomed aboard.

What if I don’t have a Proposer or Seconder for my application?

While many people join the club after being recommended by a current member, we understand that not everyone will know someone at the club. That’s why we can make the process of joining the club easy, even when you don’t have a proposer or seconder. Our membership committee representatives, who host our New Members Information sessions, will be happy to act as your Proposer and Seconder once they’ve met you in person. So why not come along and find out for yourself how helpful they can be?

How much does it cost to become a member?

The cost varies depending on the category of membership you apply for.  Note there is a one off Entrance Fee payable for all new members, together with an ongoing annual fee. See attached fees and subscriptions list at the top of this page.

When does the membership year run from/to?

The membership year commences on 1 May each year and goes through to 30 April.  Note that yearly subscription renewal invoices are sent out on, or near, 1 May each year.  You can join BYS as a new member at any stage of the year, however, the annual fees will still be billed for the full yearly period if you join between May – January, if joining after January – April then the annual fees will be pro-rated.
