BLAIRGOWRIE YACHT SQUADRON
Easter Art Show Wrap-Up – A Wonderful Weekend of Art & Community
This year, we proudly celebrated our 16th Easter Art Show, supported by Belle Property, Blairgowrie, Knight Fine Art and Crittenden Wines. We were blessed with fantastic weather throughout the weekend. The beautiful conditions allowed members and guests to relax and enjoy the deck area for extended periods, adding to the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. It was a pleasure to welcome back our sponsors, artists, BYS members, and visitors.
Once again, we showcased a wonderful range of artistic works across various media. The inclusion of both indoor and outdoor sculptures added an extra dimension to the exhibition and was very well received. A particular highlight was the fabulous outdoor sculpture Family by Deborah Halpern, which took pride of place on the lawn and created a striking focal point for visitors. This year, we exhibited an impressive 351 works, including 107 sculptures, contributed by 126 talented artists.
From the moment the doors opened, the club was buzzing with energy as members, guests, and visitors came together to enjoy what continues to be regarded as the “best show” on the Mornington Peninsula. Guests had the opportunity to meet and chat with the artists while enjoying delicious gourmet canapés, further enhancing the overall experience. While the Office is still finalising all results, feedback to date has been overwhelmingly positive.
The Opening Night was a standout, expertly guided by our MC, Commodore Georgina Plumridge. Our feature artists were Patti Green, Gabrielle Young and Dan Thornell. We also extend our sincere thanks to our esteemed judge, Adam Knight, for his time, expertise, and thoughtful consideration in selecting this year’s award winners.

History of the Easter Art Show
- The first Easter Art Show was held in the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron’s old clubhouse in 2010, a joint initiative of Past Commodore Bruce Colliver (dec.) and Past Commodore Jenni Maclean.
- The first show largely works from local artist James Uhe.
- Artist prizes are awarded at each show and as the variety of media has increased over the years, so too has the number of awards to artists.
- During its history, over 8,000 people have visited the show.
- In 2017, both indoor and outdoor sculpture was introduced, which was very well received by BYS members and the community.
- In 2017, through the funds raised, the club purchased a new start boat, named “Bruce’ in honour of Past Commodore Bruce Colliver.
- In 2018 a new Patrol 7 which acts as both a start boat and rescue boat was purchased.
- In 2018, a People’s Choice Award was introduced and this has given art show visitors another opportunity for involvement in the art show.
- Well-regarded judges, including Mrs Noel Waite AO, John Bredl, Dr Wendy Garden and John Cunningham, have given credibility to the Best in Show and specific art media awards.
