Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron is a lot of things to different people. A great place to meet and socialise with family and friends. A world class Marina from which to explore the attractions of the Bay. A competitive Club that takes pride in training sailors and managing racing in all its forms.

BYS is an Australian Sailing accredited Discover Sailing Centre that offers courses and opportunities for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced sailors. Our diverse group of experienced sailors love to welcome new members who want to have a go and are committed to passing on the skills and sportsmanship needed to sail.

LEARN TO SAIL DINGHIES
Dinghy or Keelboat?
We run learn to sail programs using both small, off-the-beach dinghies and larger keelboats. Chose to learn to sail on the type of boat that suits you best!
Dinghy – small boat sailing
Dinghies are small sailing boats and a great way to get into sailing. Dinghy sailing might suit you if you don’t mind getting wet as you’ll be launching and retrieving boats from the beach, and you may end up in the water if you capsize. Dinghies represent an ideal learning platform because thanks to their small size, participants are safe and in full control of all sailing aspects. In more experienced hands though dinghies become action-packed boats suitable for sailors looking for a thrilling sail!

Discover Sailing Experience – Dinghy
Discover sailing in a small boat, a perfect ‘taster’ for anyone who wants to discover sailing for the first time.
Start Sailing 1
Your Discover Sailing journey starts here as you learn the fundamental skills of sailing and are introduced to the fun of dinghy sailing in a safe and supportive environment.
Start Sailing 2
Your Discover Sailing journey continues as you further develop all of the fundamental dinghy sailing skills. You are now equipped to sail your dinghy on your own voyages of discovery.
Better Sailing
Discover Sailing in stronger winds as you develop the skills required to get maximum speed from your dinghy. Your journey speeds up as you experience the thrill of trapezing and using a spinnaker.
Start Racing
Your Discover Sailing journey now takes you to your local club/centre where you can join in the fun and challenge of competition as you learn the basics of racing.
Better Racing
Having enjoyed your introduction to racing it is now time to improve your performance and compete at a higher level. A greater understanding of tactics, wind patterns and boat tuning techniques will all help you get there.
