BLAIRGOWRIE YACHT SQUADRON
WELCOME TO THE 2025-26 SEASON
On behalf of the Sailing Committee, welcome to season 2025-26.
As we embark upon another season, I want to take a moment to celebrate what makes our club so special — the people. The Sailing Committee has been hard at work over the winter months, planning our sailing program and drawing up the rosters as well as making improvements to race management and safety, all with the terrific support of Michelle de Blaquiere, Maria Vasardani and Madie Gray in the Sailing Office. We are building on a strong foundation created by Richard Backwell, as previous Club Captain, and I am personally grateful for his contribution and mentorship.
Participation is the lifeblood of our club. Whether you’re on the water chasing that perfect start, helping set a mark before the first horn, or sharing a laugh over a meal afterwards, every moment you give enriches our Club.
Our commitment to child protection and safeguarding remains at the core of our values. Every young sailor deserves a safe, encouraging environment in which to learn and thrive. Thank you to everyone who upholds these standards.
Our Sail Training programs continue to thrive, offering award-winning pathways that nurture talent and build confidence among our sailors, from junior to adult, whether they dream of world championship racing or simply the joy of a well-trimmed beat. These programs are a testament to the dedication of our coaches, instructors, volunteers, and families who support our sailors every step of the way.
Upskilling our volunteers keeps our racing sharp and our events world-class. Through the Australian Sailing e-learning modules and practical courses in power boat handling, race management and mark laying, you can gain valuable skills to enhance our events to contribute even more to the club’s success. Of course the value of volunteering goes beyond the jobs themselves and I encourage you to make the most of every opportunity to be involved.
Finally, mark your calendars for the Club Captain’s Party on Saturday, 24 January 2026. It promises to be a fantastic evening of music, dancing, laughter, and great company. I look forward to seeing many of you there!
Jenni Maclean, Club Captain
