Aero Icebreaker Winter Series

Another perfect crisp and clear winters day with gentle 10K.

Six Aero’s competed with engaging and close racing followed by a welcome hot lunch in the Racing Lounge.

If the story of Heat 1 was the Commodore’s recent purchase of an Aero, then the story of Heat 2 was the recent purchase of an Aero by Gaz James.

We welcome Gaz to the fleet who will raise our collective sailing standard and competitiveness thanks to his strong sailing pedigree and talent in Contenders and Lasers. True to his ability, he pushed us all throughout the race and finished a close second to Doc in what was his first ever sail in an Aero. Well done Gaz.

Thanks to the fickleness of Blairgowrie shifts and pressure in this light air, Smarty had 2nd spot sown up for most of the race, only to be pipped by Gaz at Mark 1.

It was great to see Dean Cleland out there in his 9 rig having brushed the cobwebs off his Aero for the winter series.

Martin and Tim Adam continue to have smiles on their faces, but so far, they’ve only sailed their Aeros a handful of times in light air-we can’t wait until they get to experience what the Aero is renowned for-the exhilaration of a broad reach in 15-20k!

Our thanks to Adrian Vinck and Gerard Magner who provided safety boat support.

The BYS Aero fleet has grown remarkably in the last twelve months, now with 11 boats. Our winter series has successfully kept the interest and enthusiasm bubbling along.
