A strong fleet of OTB boats competed in heat 5 of the Aggregate, once again the young gun Ethan O’Brien and Sam Backwell lead the Sabre fleet with Geoff Smith on Should Have Known Better again showing consistent form finishing third. Philippa Danks sailing her Aero held off Charley McCarthy to win division 2. In the Contender fleet, the strong wind tested the experience of skippers with John Lindholm leading from Tim Dorning with Paul Wilson finishing a very close third place. It was good to see the Minnows out in the stronger wind conditions. Will James sailing Mako improved his form from the last race to pick up a first with Will Hailes second and Fred O’Brien third.
In the Moodys Motel Series for keelboats, 16 yachts enjoyed excellent sailing conditions with the big boats Trilogy and Matador enjoying the stronger wind conditions taking 1, 2 in the handicap division with Element 22 sailing an excellent race to pick up third place. A feature of the race was Wayne Mercer in his big cat 9 Lives sailing his first race and although starting several minutes late moved up through the fleet to finish 9th across the line. In the ORC division, Phil Endersbee took out the win from Way 2 Go with Trilogy third.
It is good to see the take up of the BYS Racing app, our sailing results software is working well with most skippers now entering correctly. Skippers are reminded that after entering all crew be sure to “save and exit.” Once downloaded, the new sailing results software offers a range of services to members via the software’s sailing hub including sign-on capabilities, links to the sailing program and race documents and weather information. Skippers looking for crew should make use of the new crew matching service under the utilities section of the sailing hub – we have many newer members coming through the start crewing courses looking to find a regular spot. Should you require assistance in setting up the software contact the sailing office.
