Sailability making a splash!

Sailability – March update

written by Ian Dalton

Have you wondered what all the small brightly coloured sails are doing in the Marina pondage on Tuesday mornings? Well, it’s the Club’s Sailability group entertaining its disabled and disadvantaged clients. Each week the Sailability group, run entirely by volunteers, takes a regular group out sailing in its fleet of Hansa 303 dinghies and the Patrol 1 motor boat. An average of 10 Clients, shown in the yellow life-jackets, visit the club each Tuesday morning for their weekly sailing fix. And, last week and additional 10 clients from the Acquired Brain Injury Group joined our regular attendees for a lively session in a 12 – 15 knot breeze. With 17 clients and their carers this is the largest group of sailors we have entertained for some time and it was a credit to the volunteer group that managed the session in a safe and enjoyable way.

Sailability welcomes new clients and volunteers during its season which runs from October through April each year.

Enquiries to Ian Dalton, Sailability Coordinator, on 0418 109 825, or the Sailing Office on 5925 9620.
