Commodore’s Breakfast and Junior Skippers Race – Jan 2023

Commodores Breakfast & Junior Skippers Race

What a morning! We hope all JST and YST Sail Training participants enjoyed our annual tradition of The Commodores Breakfast followed by Junior Skippers Race on Saturday 15 January 2023. Chef Simon and his team put on a delicious breakfast of Belgian waffles, mixed fruit, cream and maple syrup for all sailors. After a welcome speech by our Commodore Matt McCarthy, sailors were briefed on their keelboat race that awaited them. Skippers took their sailors out to for what for many what was their first keelboat experience. Crews hoisted their sails in a south westerly breeze and lined up for a start. With all crews away cleanly, all teams reached down to BYS Mark No 5 off Rye and tacked around to reach home on port tack to a BYS finish. Line Honours went to Dirt Water and crew. Well done Dirt Water!  I hope all sailors had a fantastic morning and special thanks to our skippers and their crews in providing their personal keelboats for our Sail Training sailors to have had this amazing experience! Where else, except at BYS, would we be privileged to enjoy such an experience in our Sail Training program. Thank you everyone.
