Sailing Champions League qualifier at RGYC

BYS made up two of the eight competitive teams that raced in Geelong last week, attempting to qualify for the Asia Pacific Final in March.

“Over the Australia Day week, BYS had two teams competing in the Sailing Champions League qualifier event in Geelong. BYS 1 was helmed by Ethan O’Brien and had Hannah Danks, Mitch Harding and Daisy Laing on board. BYS 1 managed to finish an impressive 5th overall and qualify for a spot in the Open Final in Newcastle later this year. BYS 2, skippered by myself, had Pip Danks, Hamish Bolton and Harriette Singh on board. We managed to make the Finals series and finish up the event in 4th place. This result meant we, too, qualified for a position for the Youth and Open Final in Newcastle.

It was a great event and allowed the youth teams to put their J70 sports boat experience to the test on the supplied RS21 boats.

Thank you to Royal Geelong Yacht Club and all volunteers for making this event possible.” Ed Warner

You can watch Ed’s entertaining below. Congratulations to our BYS sailors who, again, highlight how much growing talent we have here at the club.
