On Sunday afternoon, BYS hosted the first two races of the four-race series, the Minerva Trophy. The Minerva Trophy is an opportunity for female sailors to race in our club J70s and compete with other all-female crews. Last Sunday we filled all three BYS J70s with some of our fantastic female sailors, totalling 13 sailors competing for the trophy. These star crews of female sailors included our Rear-Commodore Georgina Plumridge, with her crew of Lisa Rollinson and Erin Fitzpatrick, with Harriette Singh to show them the basics of the J70. Our other two boats were skippered by Pip Danks and Daisy Laing, and crewed by six other members of the J70 Youth Squad along with two of our recent SheSails graduates, Heather and Sally. Thank you to the volunteers who ran the racing and set up the course. Racing wouldn’t be possible without you. It was fantastic to be able to show our SheSails graduates how exciting racing can be, and the Youth Squad is excited to take a few more female sailors out this coming Sunday for race three and four of the Minerva Trophy!
