JST & YST SAIL TRAINING PRESENTATION DAY
Sunday 12 February saw our final Sail Training Presentation Day here at BYS. What a superb turnout by all the sailors and their families. After a group briefing, sailors had their Teams’ Mini Marathon Race consisting of a board leg, swim leg and run leg, all done as a team. It was a closely run race with Orange Flag Group getting their whole team home across the line first! Well done Orange Flag!
Next up we had the lead instructors racing in Optis. Luckily we had some good breeze to allow our Instructors to get around the course. And get around the course they did, in style, showing all their supporting JST & YST sailors how to handle an Opti in some breeze! Well done to Ethan O’Brien for winning Race 1 and Sam Batty for winning Race 2. It was great to see the sailors cheer on their leaders enthusiastically.
Lastly we had a big BBQ kindly cooked by Scott Hailes, Jason and George Karametos. Thankyou gentlemen for your massive cookup that was enjoyed by all the parents and sailors. Following the BBQ was our end of season certificate presentation. Thankyou to Commodore Matt McCarthy and Rear Commodore, Georgina Plumridge for addressing the sailors and parents in our presentation.
Well done to all our sailors this season. What a magnificent season we have had. We have had an increase in numbers across all streams. The enthusiasm, positivity and willingness to get out on the water and improve by all participants this season has inspired all of us at BYS Sail Training to want to deliver to you an fun, rewarding and challenging Sail Training Season. We look forward to welcoming you all back to pickup where we have left off and continue the advancement in sailing knowledge and skillsets for a bigger and better Sail Training Season.
We wish Gidget Gibson, Will James, Abby Young and Samantha Kudnig all the best as they depart The JST Program and advance onwards to YST Sail Training next season. We wish you well. I would like to thank all the parents who have supported their children get up and get down to BYS throughout the program, even on those days when the enthusiasm may have been lacking and to help the sailors realise that there is something to be learnt every single session despite what the forecast may be and you just have to attend.
Lastly, I would like to thank our Instructor Team. We have one of the most envied and solid Instructor Teams on all of Port Phillip Bay. Ultimately this is what makes our program such a success. The time they put into their session planning and the way they deliver it to the sailors to keep it fun, yet challenging and to keep their learning on track, cannot be underestimated. On behalf of all the parents, sailors and staff I would like to thank every one of you for the contribution you made to our season.
I would like to remind all sailors just because formal Sail Training has ended and you are all back to school it does not mean we cannot continue or begin to participate in BYS club racing.
Additionally we have the Minnow State Titles at Parkdale Yacht Club just around the corner on 25 & 26 February. Lets keep up the momentum and get a massive Team BYS at Parkdale and come together as a team to represent our club at The Victorian Titles!
See you all on the water
