Championing female sailing

Join us for the highly anticipated BYS Women’s Sportsboat Regatta, hosted by the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron on the picturesque waters of southern Port Philip on March 16th and 17th, 2024.

Returning for its thrilling second edition, the BYS Women’s Sportsboat Regatta sets the stage for a riveting display of sportsboat fleet racing, proudly led by female sailors. Say goodbye to ownership barriers as competitors take to the water aboard provided J/70s, engaging in sprint-series-style racing with on-water umpiring ensuring close racing and fair play. With twelve coveted team entries up for grabs and six J/70s at the ready, teams will swap boats for each adrenaline-fueled race session.

Plenty of action sailing J/70s
Last year’s inaugural event drew ten impressive entries, including teams travelling from Sydney (RYPA and RSYS), as well as local contenders from Blairgowrie and around Port Philip Bay. All members, male and female, are invited to come along and hear from our panel of guest speakers, Vanessa Dudley, Sophie Jackson and Harriette Singh, who’ll be sure to spark some new sailing dreams of your own. Vanessa Dudley has an extensive racing background, sailing all sorts of dinghies, sportsboats and keelboats. Among other things, Vanessa was crowned 2013 World Champion in the grand-master Laser radial division and the 2013-14 Australian Sailing Female Sailor of the Year, and in 2023 Vanessa completed her 25th Sydney Hobart Race! Sophie Jackson is a Victorian Institute of Sport athlete and is campaigning in the 470 class with World Championship and Olympic aspirations. She has sailed a wide variety of dinghies, was the 2019 RS Aero 5 World Champion and recently competed in the Fireball World Championship. Sophie will be heading off next week for another European stint on the qualification circuit. Harriette Singh is our own homegrown dose of inspiration, a highly regarded dinghy and keelboat instructor here at BYS. Harriette loves being on the water herself and also loves helping other women get out on the water too. Our MC for the evening is Jenni Maclean, past BYS Commodore and former Australian Sailing Board member, so we’re in great hands. We’ll be having a two-course meal with a complementary mocktail on arrival, tickets are only $45. We’d love to have you join the fun, tickets can be purchased via Trybooking
