Kirsten Binns Smith awarded as Club Person of the Year, receiving the Ian Pender Award. A very worthy recipient, Kirsten was presented with her achievement at last Saturday’s Annual General Meeting by BYS Rear Commodore, Ian Delmenico.
Our newest member to the Club Person of the Year cohort is the classic quiet achiever – and one whose contribution to our club makes it just so much stronger.
An Avid sailor at BYS for over 20 years when initially joining her husband in 2 handed dinghies and later getting her own Sabre and being a dedicated and focussed member of the Sabre family.
- A team leader of one of our unsung heroes at BYS – The start box teams.
- Regular race day and regatta volunteer both on and off the water in all capacities including start boat, OOD and filling in for the start box teams.
- Driving force in recent years in picking up the unloved area of getting a large collection of the club’s perpetual trophy silverware updated, some renovated and the historical records documented electronically.
- Most importantly having a long-time role as a co-editor of the annual Southern Sails magazine, with her creativity having played a pivotal role in the quality of this amazing publication.
I could go on, but that gives it away!
It is my great pleasure to announce for her outstanding contribution to BYS, this year’s Ian Pender Award winner is, Kirsten Binns Smith.
Kirsten, from all of us at BYS, congratulations!
