The first heat of the Aero winter series was held on a beautiful crisp sunny afternoon in a light shifty 8-10K of breeze with eight Aeros competing, the largest fleet size all season.
It was great to welcome two long term Aero sailors, Chris Young and Dean Cleland who got their boats out of mothballs for the race and also by Tim Adam who chartered an Aero for the weekend from Racing Sailboats, the Australian Aero agent.
The surprise reveal of the day was provided by our current Commodore, Martin Kudnig, who recently purchased an Aero.
Paul Rogers took an early lead in his Aero 9 rig and never relinquished the lead. The 7 rigs of Paul Smart, Mark Hughes and Doc Little closely battled each other all race.
Our thanks to Adrian Vinck who provided safety boat support. He was assisted by Simon Pluim who was green with envy having to miss out on the action due to a dodgy shoulder.
It was great to keep the sailing momentum going after a successful summer season, with the Aero fleet planning on a race every month to complete a 5 race series.
