Dear Members
Thank you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm for Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron events. We are delighted to announce that the Notice of Race for the Salty Dingo RS Aero World Championship, taking place from 16–22 January 2027, has been published, and entries are already coming in. After the tremendous success of hosting 114 sailors at the Australian Championship in January 2026, we are preparing to welcome over 150 competitors from around the globe for this prestigious event.
We are thrilled to invite you to be part of this exciting event as a volunteer. Your help makes these events possible, and your involvement is key to providing a world-class experience for all participants. Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet fellow members, form lasting friendships, and be part of a significant international event. One of our past volunteers shared, “Being part of the regatta team was incredibly rewarding. I learned so much, had fun, and felt proud to contribute to our club’s success.”
We have a range of on-water and off-water volunteer roles available, including:
- Car and trailer parking marshal
- Measurement assistant
- Registration desk
- First aider
- Beach marshal
- Safety boat driver and crew
- Start and finish boat crew
- Mark laying crew
- Jury assistant
- Radio operator
- Scoring and results assistant
- Race tower assistant
- Media boat driver
- International flag bearer for Opening Ceremony (Junior members encouraged)
A commitment across the whole regatta period is desirable but not essential – any time you can give is greatly appreciated. Training will be provided for all roles ahead of the event – we’ll separately notify dates and times. Volunteers will receive a regatta uniform, a branded water bottle, lunch, and after-race refreshments.
If you are interested in volunteering, please register your interest by completing the Volunteering Expression of Interest form here.
In addition, we’re seeking expressions of interest from any members willing to make their vessel available (with a driver) for the duration of the regatta as safety boats (RHIBS), to assist with recording mark roundings or provide spectator opportunities (powerboats or yachts). Please contact the Sailing Office directly at sailing@bys.asn.au or 5925 9600 to discuss this form of involvement, or register your support vessel availability here.
We look forward to working together to make the Salty Dingo RS Aero World Championship a memorable success. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
Warm regards
Jenni Maclean
