Mud Island Picnic – May 2023

This is always a special date on the BYS calendar of events! On Sunday 16 January, Gemma and Lucas organised for 54 junior and youth members to enjoy breakfast on the deck hosted by our Commodore Matt McCarthy, before heading out on eight keelboats for the Junior Skippers Race. Light conditions made for some close racing, with Javelin (J70) winning, followed by Essentially Chicken and Trilogy. Our junior and youth skippers showed how it’s done. For many of these skippers it was their first time on a keelboat. A very special thank-you to the owners of Pending, Trilogy, Matador, Crescendo and Essentially Chicken for providing their boats and hosting our junior and youth skippers, in addition to our three club J70s.

Junior skippers and crew on board Matadore.
Ready to hit the water on board Crescendo.
