72nd Season Opening Day 2023

On Saturday we celebrated the Opening of our 72nd Sailing Season.

The day began with a morning tea, hosted by our Commodore Martin Kudnig and the Executive Committee in the Southern Waters Room to welcome our invited guests before the Official Season Opening on the lawn, where Rear Commodore Ian Delmenico guided us as our Master of Ceremonies, and Vice Commodore Georgina Plumridge introduced our newly appointed Junior Club Captains, Abby Young and Fred O’Brien.

Club Captain Richard Backwell extended a warm welcome to all in attendance, and Member for Nepean, Sam Groth, had the honor of officially opening our season. 50-year member, Kate Opie, raised our burgee, a flag that had been masterfully folded by Bruce Harding. Martin also presented our newly appointed 50-year members who were in attendance.

Members enjoyed a complimentary BBQ on The Deck in the sunshine followed by the on-water Sail Past with each boat giving three cheers to the Commodore. Thank you to all of our boat owners, skippers and crew who participated and to those who welcomed our guests onboard out on the water.

The annual Commodore’s Cocktail Party added the perfect finishing touch to our day of celebrations. Over 230 members came together, enjoying each other’s company and the tunes of the live band. It was a memorable day of festivities.
