2020 BYS Challenge – 23 February

Sunday 23 February 2020

You are invited to participate in the fifth edition of the ‘BYS Challenge’ – an event comprising five (5) legs with teams of four (4) – each team member does one individual leg, with the team then completing the fifth leg.

The legs are as follows:

  • Leg 1:  1.2 km swim
  • Leg 2:   3 km ski paddle
  • Leg 3:   2 km stand up paddle board
  • Leg 4:   2.4 km beach run
  • Leg 5:   500 m team swim

This event has been running for the last couple of years and it started out as a way of giving back to an area and a local community that we have all enjoyed.

The event has a strong purpose which is to support vocation and employment opportunities for youth on the southern peninsula with all proceeds going to headspace. This year they will be launching a headspace satellite in Rosebud, in partnership with both the Brotherhood of St Laurence and Mornington Peninsula Shire Youth Services (that has also received Federal Government funding).

The day itself will be used to promote the opening of the new satellite with all proceeds to also go directly to it.

We are also thrilled to to advise that both Searoad Ferries and Belle Property (Hocking Stuart) have come on board as major sponsors for this year’s event, reflecting their desire to be involved with the event and what it represents. In addition, we have also been receiving prize donations for the day.

We are expecting 30+ teams and I’d like to believe the event could triple in size and be one that people want to do to show their support for wanting to make a difference – a call to action at a time in the year when people and organisations are starting to put into place plans which could be supported by our youth.

As such, there are a variety of ways in which the event can be supported:

  • as a sponsor (in cash or donating a product or service for the silent auction on the day)
  • as a supporter of the event in helping to promote the event across your social media
  • and what would be most welcome, the opportunity to provide work experience, internship or part time work
  • or simply as an individual participant or in putting together a team

Hopefully you have seen this event being advertised in the weekly “On the Horizon” and there are a number of the flyers around the club.

The Flag Officers are putting a team together and so I’d also encourage you all to get behind this club event.
