Try 29er day

The Victorian 29er fleet visited Blairgowrie to join our club racing on Saturday 2 December as part of their travelers series and held a fleet training morning on Sunday with class coach Harry Sly – an interesting sight for our Junior and Youth Sail Training groups.

On Sunday afternoon our junior and youth sailors were treated to a ‘try 29er sailing’ session, with many keen minnow, ILCA and sabre sailors having a go at trapezing and sailing with an asymmetrical spinnaker as crew. By the look of the grins, we may have a few aspiring 29ers sailors in the next few years! For those who aren’t familiar with 29ers, they are a one-design international class aimed primarily at youth sailors and is the smaller sister to the Olympic 49er and 49erFX classes. In fact, our JST and YST sailors will see coach Laura Harding again once she’s back from campaigning in the 49erFX around Europe. Sailors and families interested in learning more about the class can head to https://vic9er.com.au/

The try 29er sailing day provided our junior sailors with an opportunity to try something new, and highlights that there are many options out there when it comes to choosing their next boat. Thank you to the sailors and parents of the Vic 29er Class Association and class coach Harry Sly for making the afternoon possible.
