Sailing Conditions

Blairgowrie’s wind during the summer months of January and February is traditionally dominated by a local thermal sea breeze effect normally building from 1.00pm onwards through to a peak at 5.00pm of approximately 20 knots from the South West.

Blairgowrie can and does, however, experience a variety of conditions over the summer months. Conditions range from zero knots (rare) through to 30 knots (rare) south westerly changes and 30+ knot hot dry northerly conditions. There are few sailing venues in the world that consistently experience the excellent winds and conditions that Blairgowrie enjoys over the summer months.

Facilities

BYS opened its brand new three storey clubhouse complex, designed as a world class sailing facility, in October 2015.

Downstairs sees great modern office facilities for our staff, an inviting entrance foyer, a large junior lounge, a canteen, change-rooms, and lots of storage area. A generous deck area provides a large shaded informal area immediately adjacent to the junior lounge that leads to our well grassed lawn.

On the first floor is our spacious and flexible 200 person ‘Southern Waters Room’ that can serve as a function facility, bistro and meeting room. On the eastern side is the Racing Lounge which provides members with a great bar, meals and social area. Serving both rooms and the deck is a full commercial kitchen and a large bar. Outside is a massive deck overlooking the lawn with spectacular views from Sorrento to Arthur’s Seat and beyond.

Upstairs is our race control room, sailing offices and the Commodore’s Room which provides a superb venue for smaller groups coupled with the best view on the Peninsula.
