Recreational boating

BLAIRGOWRIE YACHT SQUADRON

Exploring everything the Bay has to offer

While still a relatively new class of sailing at BYS, involvement in recreational boating has recently been enjoying a surge in popularity. And who would doubt it when we’re fortunate enough to have the beautiful attractions of the southern peninsula on our doorstep. It’s this explosion of interest to just get out on the water in a yacht or powerboat that has informed many of the Club’s decisions to expand our member services and facilities and build a world class Marina for the enjoyment of all.

In fact some of the best fun your family and friends can have is to join other members in one of the many social cruises and destination events run throughout the season.

Among the most popular of these have been the group cruise to Queenscliff, visiting the QCYC  for a BBQ lunch to enjoy each other’s company before cruising back to BYS.

Another favourite is the Good Friday trip to Mud Island. Members meet in the morning at “The Rock”, next to the flagpole, Club staff can organise you a ride on a boat as we cruise over and drop anchor at  Mud Island for a picnic lunch. It’s a fun social day, and you’ll be bound to meet new friends.

If you’d prefer to explore the cruising and Wildlife destinations under your own power, quick trips include The Fort, Quarantine, Ocean Cliffs, Bird, Seal and Dolphin watching and even fishing. Whatever takes your fancy you’ll find a friendly bunch of like minded members at BYS.
